Ethics in a Nutshell
|Date||: 28 September 2017|
|Event Type||: Webinar|
|Time||: 17:00 – 18:00|
The focus of this webinar is to look at the broad foundation of ethics, specifically in the field of psychology. We need to unpack the related concepts and thought processes, because ethics is not simply a matter of personal opinion. In fact, ethics is the difficult task of practically applying norms and standards to ever new and changing circumstances. By bringing theoretical principles and concrete facts together for reflection, we may embark on a journey of complex ethical thinking. This is because philosophical ethics utilises logical considerations almost everyone recognizes as morally relevant. In visiting this topic, it is imperative to include an overview of the four dominant ethical theories in order to determine how and why they impact on how we are guided by societal rules, as well as legislation. Furthermore, by unpacking the difference between ethics and morality, we will attempt to find common ground regarding what we “ought” to do. But while this may be clear from a theoretical perspective, it is often unclear what should guide our action in a real-life predicament. This webinar will thus provide some thought models, but not necessarily the tangible guidelines we so often crave.
