Psychology professional interested in the prevailing childhood disorder in South Africa.
This workshop will focus on the more prevalent childhood disorders that South African psychologists, teachers and other professionals deal with. Included will be an overview of internalising disorders (anxiety and depression), externalising disorders (ADHD, Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder), elimination disorders (Enuresis and Encopresis) and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Attention will be paid to the classification of these disorders as per the new DSM-5 and the difficulties that arise from these, especially as far as children’s scholastic performance is concerned. The workshop also aims at identifying ways to provide support to teachers and parents whose children are diagnosed with any of the stated disorders. Some case studies will be discussed during the workshop.

The workshop aims to give practitioners practical tips on how to support parents and teachers, who struggle with childhood psychopathology on a daily basis.
